I began 2018 by breaking my lease, throwing my prized possessions into storage and setting off the see parts of the US I’d yet to see, by car. This is significant because I’m a terrible driver. About six months into my travels — I was given the opportunity to help launch a new automotive company on a mission to help people explore the world in new ways. Coincidence? I think not.

He's in love. That's the only way to explain how 92-year-old Charles McGee sees the world, and moves through it with such grace and awe. I got to spend a sunny afternoon with the artist in his home in Detroit. His words will stay with me for a long time. As will the sparkle in his eye that twinkled when he spoke.

To coincide with the launch of their line of turntables, Shinola collaborated with iconic rock n’ roll photographer and activist Leni Sinclair. Her photos tell the story of a pivotal era in American culture. Shinola asked me to tell Leni's story—which is equally compelling.

Abir Ali and Andre Sandifer can build anything. And they do. Including a credenza named Ethel that Shinola commissioned to house their new turntable. This mom-and-pop design duo will make your heart sing. I loved getting a peak inside their studio, their process and the life they've build in Detroit.

Ideally situated on the Caribbean Sea, in the heart of a cozy Garifuna village is Hopkins Bay Belize Hotel & Resort. Locals call it the real Belize and it has a way of bringing out the real you. I was asked to craft new messaging throughout the site that evokes the playful, colorful, laid-back character of this unique corner of the world.

GM's tie-in with the Transformer movie led to all kinds of interesting promotions with all kinds of copy needs. I was forced to channel my inner robot for this one.

Sometimes telling other people's stories is easier than telling your own. While the team at WO has perfected the art of storytelling through moving images for an impressive and eclectic roster of clients, I helped them find their own voice for the launch of their new website. You can read their story, their philosophy and team bios online, but nothing beats hanging with them in real life.  

NARRATIVE // TIFFANY & CO.

To celebrate the grand re-opening of the Tiffany & Co. on Rodeo Drive, I was asked to dream up and write a narrative for a performance piece to be performed live at the star studded event. This video provides a peek into the evening that included a ballet and performance by Ariana Grande.

The secret to designing the ultimate accessory line is simple: Live a lot. Richard Lambertson and John Truex have each lived 9 lives and they have the well-made baggage to prove it. Shinola asked me to profile their co-design directors of leather and I loved hearing every juicy detail of their journey from Studio 54 to their leather studio in Detroit.

Refurbished Saabs are put thru a rigorous 117-point inspection. I was asked to create a series of print ads and collateral pieces to promote the program.  

OUT-OF-HOME // NESTLE

Chocolate milk is totally good for you. If it's on a giant sticky note attached to a skyscraper to get the attention of all 9-5ers in the vicinity, it must be true. This was part of creative pitch for Nestle's new morning drink, Quickstart.

GM was on an e-mission and I got to tell the whole world about it.

The quartz analog movement that makes Shinola's flagship timepiece tick is made up of 40 delicate components. It’s called the Argonite 1069, and it’s the caliber—or tiny engine—that taught Shinola how to be Shinola. I spent hours inside Detroit's first watch factory, watching, listening and learning. They are building more than watches. 

BRAND VIDEO // ENERGY CONSUMPTION APP

One company is trying to change the way we consume energy by putting the power in the hands of the people. Via an app. It's a massive undertaking with a lot of moving parts but I broke down the idea in this video. This app could help decrease our dependance on fossil fuels and eliminate the need to build more power plants, all while saving consumers money.

It's part leather factory, part magic workshop. The buzz coming from the sun-soaked corner of the Argonaut Building, also known as Shinola's leather factory, is contagious. The sound of the machines, the smell of new leather and sight of scraps flying through the air as skilled artisans build everything from watch straps to bags is proof American manufacturing is back.

Alex lives and breathes bicycles. When it comes to writing about them, he needs a little help. That's where I come in. I ghostwrote this article about cycling in Detroit from the perspective of someone who has been doing it for decades. Yes I bought a bike after.
